Industry Glossary

My allergies are marching through my sinuses; I'm afraid they have taken the field today.

So I cut and paste the Glossary fromMovie Dollars support board on MySpace.

I hope this helps
..............................................................................
For everyone just starting out we've decided to compile and post a glossary of webmaster terms.

This way we're all speaking the same language.

AFFILIATE - A website owner who makes money by linking to (advertising) another company's sites or services. Affiliates typically operate free adult sites (Blogs, TGP/MGP, adult link directories, etc.)

AFFILIATE PROGRAM - An affiliate program (similar to a traditional reseller program). pays other website owners (it's affiliates) a commission based on referred sales. The most common type of affiliate programs are membership based sites (pay-sites), VOD sites and retail sites that enlist adult website owners to advertise their sites or products. Affiliate programs also provide affiliates with promotional materials such as banner ads, "teaser" photo sets and video clips.

BANNER - Any piece of web art that is used to advertise a site, product or service. Banners come in a variety of sizes and orientations (horizontal, vertical, square, etc.)

BLOG - A Blog is a regularly updated personal website. Most Blogs are written in a casual, first person style and have a general point of view. In the adult world, a blog can be as simple as a site that publishes news bits and photos. Blog sites often are affiliates and make money by advertising sites or products.

FREE HOSTED GALLERY- Also known as an FHG, it is a single web page featuring "teaser" photos or video clips, usually organized around a particular content niche. FHGs are used to "tease" users into joining a site or buying a product. Most affiliate programs design (and host for free) premade FHGs for their affiliates.

LIVE FEED (AKA LIVE CAMS) - A live feed is a "Live" video that is run through a computer and broadcast on the internet, Live feeds feature models who interact with internet users and are available for private one-on-one session (for a fee).

PAY-PER SALE (PPS) - Pay-per-sale is a type of affiliate program that pays affiliates a one-time commission for a referred subscriber. Typically PPS programs pay a large one-time commission up front and make back the commission (plus profits) through monthly subscriber billings.

PAY SITE - Any website that charges for access to content. Most pay sites offer several membership options, from the nonrecurring, one month memberships to an open-ended recurring subscription where the member is automatically billed every month.

RETAIL SITE - A site that sells tangible goods such as DVDs or Sex Toys.

REVSHARE - Revshare is a type of affiliate program that pays for affiliates based on a percentage split. For example it could be a 50/50 "revshare," in which the affiliate program pays the affiliate 50% of all monthly subscription fees collected from a referred subscriber.

THIRD-PARTY PROCESSOR (3P) - Also known as an internet payment service provider (IPSP), 3Ps collect money from subscribers/customers on behald of adult companies (Pay site, VOD/PPV, and retail companies). Most 3Ps offer multiple payment options, such as credit card or online check. Most adult companies work with more than one 3P to ensure their users have multiple options.

THUMBNAIL GALLERY POST/MOVIE GALLERY POST - Also known as TGP and MGP, are free adult websites that link to galleries (web pages) containing "teaser" content. TGPs and MGPs often receive their content from affiliate programs. The teaser content gives users a taste of what they will get if they visit a gallery's advertised site. The TGP/MPG website owner gets paid by the affiliate program is the user joins/buys.

VIDEO ON DEMAND/PAY-PER-VIEW - Rather than charging a monthly subscription, these sites charge users only for the content they view, usually on a per-minute or per-video basis. Also known as VOD/PPV sites.
